Background

lina joy montgomery headshot Linda Joy Montgomery is the founder and executive director of The True Vision Institute. She was a professional photographer until 1983, when blindness interrupted her love affair with the visual world, prompting her to explore the realm of inner awareness and inner guidance. In her quest for new understanding, her writing has led to the vocation of author and public speaker.

Montgomery is the author of Silent Strength, a book combining her former nature photography with her inspirational poetry. Silent Strength was the winner of a Silver Angel Award in 1991. She has given inspirational talks to civic organizations and such forums as The Washington Speakers Bureau and The Foundation Fighting Blindness.

Her spiritual insights have led her to discover that there are many other avenues of seeing, feeling and listening that go beyond our five senses. This work has evolved into teaching children and young adults how to see "beyond the use of their eyes."

The True Vision Institute is currently supporting classroom presentations to help students, ages 9-16, to develop their inner awareness and to access their inner wisdom.

Encouraging this ability in children is a perfect balance to their academic tasks. Montgomery's talks contain stories and anecdotes highlighting intuition, imagination, creativity and "seeing with the heart." In addition, she shares her first-hand knowledge that having a physical disability does not stop the flow of one's creativity. Claudia Honeycutt, a parent who attended one of Montgomery's talks at Glen Arden Elementary School, comments:

"I think your message about finding and listening to those inner parts of ourselves was so important for the children to hear. You really captured and held their attention and that's no small task. Your example of intuition - encountering a fork in the road and taking a moment to stop and be quiet and search for your intuition about which way to go - was perfect. These children are at an age where decisions they are making right now and as they approach their teens, will have much better outcomes if they take time to listen to their inner spirit."

The talks are gathering momentum, the kids are responding with wide-eyed enthusiasm, and teachers and guidance counselors are opting for the carrot! More schools are requesting future talks for their students.
